Ballot Basics Online

Fundraising and donations are a great way for a library to generate extra income, but they aren't a permanent source of funding.  Libraries need sustainable funding in order to provide modern and relevant services to their communities, hire the staff they need and to keep the pace with current technology.  Going on the ballot is the most common way for libraries to obtain this funding through the democratic process of a public vote.  In this introductory workshop, you will learn about the different ballot options available to libraries.  We'll discuss the advantages and considerations for conducting a ballot initiative as well as the process for each.  Other issues surrounding a ballot vote such as budgets and advocacy/campaigning will also be discussed.  Come learn which ballot option is right for your library as you think about your future budgets and funding situation.
