Library Gym: Community Promotions Online

Welcome to a brand new Q&A series called Library Gym, where North Country library workers gather together online to work out - with weighty topics! Each session will involve participants sharing their thoughts, opinions, policies, and practices on a particular topic. Maybe the topic will be something your library has a lot of experience with, or maybe it'll be something you've never even thought about. Either way, Library Gym will be sure to exercise your critical thinking skills. We're kicking the series off with the topic of community promotions.

Libraries are trusted organizations where community members can find information and opportunities that are relevant to their needs. And as community hubs, libraries are often asked to share information about services or events from local businesses, non-profit organizations, or informal groups. How does your library handle this?

Before attending this session, consider these questions:

  • What are the rules of your community bulletin board?
  • How does your library decide what content to share from its social media accounts?
  • What guidelines does your library follow when it comes to promoting non-library events or services?
  • Are these guidelines formal (policy-based) or informal?

Every library is different, and every library will have had different experiences with this topic. We want to hear the good, the bad, and the awkward so that we can learn from each other. See you there!

Please note: This session will not be recorded.
