Ancestry 101 (Morning) Online

It's happened to everyone who has worked in a library. Out of the blue, you get a question from a patron about how to find information on their family history. What exact year did their great-great-grandmother come to this country? What was the name of their great-uncle's first wife?  Are they really somehow related to Thomas Jefferson?
Unless you have experience with genealogy research, it can be hard to know where to start. Luckily, the North Country Library System provides free access to Ancestry.com from any member library. Join the librarians from the Roswell P. Flower Library in Watertown for an overview of Ancestry Library Edition and its resources, including:

    Census data
    Vital records
    Immigration records
    Family histories
    Military records
    Court and legal documents
    Directories, photos, maps, and more!

After you've learned the ins and outs of Ancestry, you'll be prepared to help patrons one-on-one, collaborate on a local history project, or even offer an introductory class to your community! As an added bonus, every attendee will receive FREE swag to promote Ancestry to your patrons.
