It's time again for NCLS Annual Meeting! Join us at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton on Monday, September 15, for a continuing education day that's equal parts learning and fun.

After welcome remarks and awards presented by NCLS board and staff, we'll dive right into our keynote address, presented by Emily Drabinski, Associate Professor at the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. A plated lunch will be served, and attendees will have a chance to meet with other library staff and trustees from around the North Country.

After lunch, NCLS Consultants will present an interactive workshop designed to complement the keynote address, underscoring the importance of access and intellectual freedom.

Please note: Attending the NCLS Annual Meeting counts as two (2) hours toward the trustee training requirement.

Keynote address: The Library at the End of the World

In a time of uncertainty and division, the public library remains among the best examples of the world we want. Libraries connect people to resources and to each other, no matter who we are, where we come from, or what we believe. Why are these trusted institutions under attack? Join ALA Past President Emily Drabinski for a discussion of national trends and local strategies for securing and expanding access to information for everyone.

About our speaker

Emily Drabinski is Associate Professor at the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. She publishes and presents widely on topics related to knowledge organization, information literacy, and critical perspectives in librarianship. Drabinski edits Gender and Sexuality in Information Studies, a book series from Library Juice Press/Litwin Books. She is a contributing writer at Truthout.

She is a past-president of the American Library Association and currently serves as the chair of the New York Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee.
